The Problem

Urinary incontinence affects 1 in 4 adult Australians and nearly half a billion people worldwide. It causes physical and mental health issues, productivity loss, and increased dependence on the caregiver. The diverse causes of incontinence make it incurable and symptoms get significantly worse with age. Managing incontinence is costly and bothersome, limiting people’s ability to function. Current solutions used in hospitals, aged care facilities, or by individuals are not effective for people with moderate to severe symptoms or are associated with health complications such as dermatitis, urinary tract infections, and sleep disturbance – leading to further health deterioration.

The Solution

BlissFlow is a non-invasive urine removal device composed of a smart wearable and a urine transporter. The wearable resembles regular underwear and has an embedded urine detection system that actively senses the leakages. The urine transporter will be then instantaneously activated and removed into a secured, odour-controlled container. Unlike external catheters, BlissFlow is easy and comfortable to wear at home and on the go. The wearable can be worn by users regardless of their gender and body size. It accounts for different body positions so it can be used during a variety of daily activities or while asleep. Compared to diapers, BlissFlow keeps patients dry for longer periods, reducing the frequency of the need to change and lowering the risk of developing complications such as dermatitis and urinary tract infections. BlissFlow will help patients and caregivers live healthier and more productive lives.
