The Problem

People with Parkinson's Disease who struggle to, or require help with, brushing their teeth because, due to a breakdown in their nervous system, they struggle with manoeuvrability of their limbs, hands and wrist, and ultimately struggle to control the toothbrush, but they still want to maintain their independence, which ultimately, results in poor oral hygiene.

The Solution

I'm developing an electric toothbrush designed specifically to help people with neurological conditions, such as Parkinson’s Disease, who struggle to, or require help with, brushing their teeth. The toothbrush will brush the person's teeth so that they or their caregiver doesn't have to physically brush them, maintaining the person's independence, or facilitating the caregiver's responsibilities, to brush the person’s teeth adequately, effectively, and easily within a short time period. The solution will eradicate the manoeuvrability and control issues that they currently face with their current toothbrushes. I have initial 3D CAD designs, a business partner working on the tech/enginerring of the product, and potentially have a Lecturer of Dentistry helping me with product design and clinical trials. There are a few channels to market the product: - Hospitals - Occupational Therapists - Suppliers of physical disability products - Expos - Non-profit organisations I hope to complete the Remarkable Launcher Program and the Accelerator Program to learn and secure investment, secure MVP grant and other grants, then to create a prototype ready for manufacturing. I'm also in contact with local innovative and design teams at universities in NSW, who can help me create the prototype, they're also heavily subsidies by the government to bring the costs down.
