iVocab

AI-driven AAC mobile application revolutionising how individuals with communication impairments express themselves
People with communication impairments desire a greater Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) experience. The current range of AAC applications have limited functionality in regards to fulfilling a persons needs in quick, complex communication. People who have severe communication impairments, can also have significant barriers and adverse challenges to overcome in their lives. Innovative and engaging AAC technologies can play a vital role in supporting greater independence, inclusivity and confidence in their ability to communicate more affectively.
According to the speech pathologists the current AAC apps are outdated and indicated there is a growing demand for new and improved ones so the solution was to create a new AAC application. Requirements saw the application be built with both the end-user and caregiver in mind, current enterprise level UI and architecture, one tap communication, online/ offline abilities, automatic backup, AI integration - for complex sentence building, intuitive editing along with the ability to search/ share and download specific vocabs (categorised folders) for the user to get up and running fast. These focal points served as the pivotal elements that were crucial for enhancing the overall AAC experience. I'd like to mention that I currently have an AAC application called iVocab available on the iPad AppStore, which not only meets but also surpasses the aforementioned requirements. I was able to bootstrap the development of latest version over the past year.
