The Problem

The d/Deaf and hard of hearing face subtle, systematic, and safety challenges daily in a world predicated on hearing. Lisnen focuses on everyday safety and convenience challenges for the deaf and hard of hearing. Fire alarms, sirens, yells, cries, door knocks, and bells are sounds that expect attention. Yet, for people who are Deaf and hard of hearing, not knowing can be a risk. Furthermore, the World Health Organization has placed Alerting devices on its top priority product list due to global challenges of access to this technology.

The Solution

Lisnen is solving the lack of access and inequalities of using only sound to communicate critical information for people with hearing loss. Lisnen is a smart hearing assistant produced for deaf and hard of hearing users. Our mobile app applies customized AI algorithms to detect fire alarms, sirens, and many more sounds, conveniently from a smartphone and other smart device with microphones. Users can receive alert notifications in a variety of forms. Haptic and visual notifications inform the user of selected sounds heard, and users can pair the app with other smart technologies to receive information while not having their smartphone always nearby. We designed our app to help the d/Deaf and hard of hearing users gain confidence and independence in any environment. Users pay a subscription fee weekly or annually. Also, we have our beta app ready for launch in the app store this week.
